Srinagar, December 9 (KNO) : CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Saturday asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to desist from using force against the people who are protesting against the decision of US President Donald Trump, to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to shift the US Embassy there from Tel Aviv. In a statement issued to press here he said the protests against Trump's decision are but natural as it has hurt the sentiments of people across the world. People across the world are protesting against this unjust decision. The J&K Government must not use force against the protesters as emotions are very high here, and it doesn't take much to kick things off. The recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is an occupied territory by Israel since 1967 and is an outrageous act which saner voices around the world can not accept. No other country in the world has given recognition to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. He also questioned the BJP-led Central Government's ostensible neutrality and median posturing over the issue. Such a move in the past would have drawn strong condemnation from India. The past governments in New Delhi always consistently supported an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital which is the internationally accepted position. In 1974 India became the first non-Arab state to recognize Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and in 1988, New Delhi was one of the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine. However, it is for the first time that the government in Delhi has scrupulously refused to criticize the US decision. The US decision is condemnable and has drawn worldwide condemnation. Government of India must not affect the image of the country and Modi government must come out strongly disapproving the US action.(KNO)
